Equip | How to Love Your (Homeless) Neighbor

Homelessness is a visible reality as we move around NYC and beyond. Many of us would love to help love the individual in front of us who is made in God’s image, but just don’t know how. Rescue Alliance are coming to speak to us from their years of experience conducting thousands of homeless outreach projects in partnership with churches, workplaces and neighborhoods. They are equipped to answer questions like: Is it safe to approach a homeless person? Should I give money to a panhandler? How can I help someone get off the street?

Come for a special three week equip series to hear from our brothers and sisters at Rescue Alliance. November 3rd, 10th and 17th at 8:45am. Coffee and Bagels will be provided.

Workshop #1: What Can I Do About Homelessness

Leader: Josiah Haken, New York City Relief

Description: As Christians, we know Jesus tells us to love our neighbors as ourselves, but how we do that looks different depending on the context. In NYC homelessness is an ever-present reality. We see our neighbors sleeping in the streets, sidewalks, and subways every single day.  We often feel a desire to help, but because we don’t know what to do, we end up doing nothing. We read about all the things the government is trying to do and many of us know of nonprofits who are trying to help. But here’s the real question: what can I do about homelessness?
