Preparing for Sunday, Feb. 12th | Gospel Unity

“Truly, God’s plan of redemption is about more than me and you and our neighbor down the street. It’s about men and women from every tribe, tongue, and nation on earth becoming a part of His covenant community.”

– Matt Chandler, Creature of the Word: The Jesus-Centered Church

This Sunday we are in Acts 11, concerning the Church in Antioch and the leadership of Barnabas. We invite you to look over this excerpt from our bulletin in preparations for this Sunday.

First Scripture reading: Romans 1:8-17

Second Scripture reading: Acts 11:19-30

A Prayer for Today: O GOD, whose blessed Son was manifested that he might destroy the works of the devil, and make us the sons of God, and heirs of eternal life: Grant us, we beseech you, that, having this hope, we may purify ourselves, even as he is pure; that, when he shall appear again with power and great glory, we may be made like unto him in his eternal and glorious kingdom; where with you, O Father, and you, O Holy Ghost, he lives and reigns, ever one God, world without end. Amen. (BCP 1662The Sixth Sunday after Epiphany)

Reflect:

There’s so many different worlds, so many different suns. And we have just one world, but we live in different ones.

What [often] occurs is a demographic phenomenon and not necessarily a gospel phenomenon. Single moms gravitate to each other regardless of whether or not the gospel is true. This community is wonderful and helpful—but its existence says nothing about the power of the gospel.
